Speeddating with Researchers
Do you want to know more about doing research at the University Medical Centre Groningen (UMCG)? Are you curious about the possibilities of doing a PhD-programme in the Netherlands? Or do you just want to talk with students who have come from abroad to do research in Groningen and ask them for advice? Then the workshop “Speed dating” is just the thing for you!
During the congress the workshop “Speed dating” will be organized twice. During this workshop you will get the chance to come into contact with researchers from the different Research Institutes of the UMCG (more information about the UMCG Research Institutes can be found under “Research in Groningen” on our website). They will tell you everything about their current research projects, about their departments and about what doing research at UMCG is like. You can choose between research topics of your interest.
There will also be the possibility to have a talk with PhD-students, who have come to Groningen from abroad. You can ask them all kind of practical questions: for example, how to apply for scholarships in your own country as well as in the Netherlands, how to find housing in Groningen, and what the Dutch culture is like. They can give you all the inside information!
The workshop will start with a brief introduction to the many possibilities for research in the UMCG. Then the real “speed dating” begins. Everyone will be able to talk to a researcher for a few minutes. You might want to exchange some contact information during that time for any future correspondence. Do not underestimate the possibilities that these short introductions and first impressions can offer. This workshop is all about taking a first step towards a possible PhD and it might develop to be the start of a successful research career in Groningen.
You will receive detailed information about the researchers and departments who participate in this workshop several weeks before the congress. Afterwards, you can get a list of all the email addresses so that you can contact the Research Institute of your choice in the future.
The workshop will take place in the “Research Room (Ronde Zaal)” at the first floor. You can ask the ISCOMS crew for directions. In the Research Room you can also find posters from the different Research Institutes.
