Tracks

This year the ISCOMS offers the opportunity to students who are interested in one field of science to follow a specific track. The ISCOMS has one track on this year's focus: healthy ageing, and two other tracks; neurology and cardiology. If you wish to follow these tracks you can see below what the tracks contain and in order to follow the track you can select the corresponding sessions and workshops during your registration. Please note that this is only an advice, if you are interested in healthy ageing, neurology or cardiology, you are welcome to make your own interesting combinations!

Healthy Ageing Track

Healthy ageing is the focus of the 2010 ISCOMS. If you choose to follow this track you will see research from the beginning of life all the way to the elderly, and find out which problems can arise in those different stages.

1. Oral Genetics: the beginning of life, where it all starts. Do you have genetics to stay healthy during your life, or genes that make you more perceptive to developing an illness?
2. Poster Gynaecology & Reproductive Health: Pregnancy and birth are crucial for the rest of one's life. Is your beginning filled with complications or do you have a healthy start for life?
3. Poster Healthy Ageing: Everything that has to do with healthy ageing, together in one session. Listen to research about diabetes mellitus, dietary problems, cardiovascular and psychiatric problems.
4. Oral Vascular Medicine: Cardiovascular disease is one of the most common causes of death in the elderly, which makes it a big problem for health care. This session includes interesting presentations about atherosclerosis, risk factors for vascular problems and much more.
5. Keynote Patrick Schrauwen: Hear a renowned speaker present his research about "Mitochondrial Function - Involvement in type 2 diabetes and obesity", one of the major problems of healthy ageing.
